March,
2000 - The first time I saw the mighty Froglick, I was
kicking it at the back of the Junction, having an easy chat
with DJ Wack Beak. Froglick really took the stage. I don't
mean that they started to load it into their van and drive
off; what I mean is that they really started out with a bang.
The first thing that struck me was that they had some guy
with a hat actually singing while a bunch of swirling
guitar, bass, and drum sounds enveloped me in a delicious
wash of high energy, pulsing sonic waves. Before I know it,
this guitar guy, with a flying snarl of gray Medusa braids
all the way around his head and down his back, is launching
into some of the tightest grooves I've heard since, well,
since... No never mind. I'm not going to mention any other
bands here, because it really sounded unlike anything I've
every heard, and I don't want you going off and assuming that
Froglick sounds like anyone else. I mean, they didn't come
from the moon, but I could have sworn that they launched me
over it that first time I heard them.
To make
a long story somewhat shorter, Wack Beak leaned over a stray
piece of paper and scrawled the words, "I REALLY like these
guys." To this day I'm not certain whether he was referring
to the actual members of the band or their music, but either
way you take it, this foursome is a must see.

February,
2000 - Okay, I have to admit that Froglick is probably
my favorite band in the Utah Talent Showdown. I can't get
enough of their energy, their charisma as a unit, or the variety
of influences they display. For starters, they're all very
handsome fellas, which always does wonders for a band's image.
Secondly, they project an air of self- confidence and exuberance
that would make the most ardent Celine Dion fan take off her
clothes and plaster her body with Froglick stickers (which
are happily provided, free of charge, and in bulk, at the
shows). For a pop music fanatic ("pop" as a genre, meaning
hook-heavy and non-aggressive, not as an abbreviation of "popular"),
these guys have it all. The songs vary in tempo and style,
but never in energy. The hooks are strong enough to both:
a) get you to sing a long the first time you hear them a la
"Hoe-Down" and
b) keep you singing them after the band has left the stage.
Each individual instrumentalist is obviously talented, but
anything fancy they do has been integrated into to the song
structure, so it never seems like any of them is a guitar-
bass- or- drum- wank. To me, the combination of many influences,
the hybridization of many styles, and the focus on song structure,
charisma, and hooks, is the sure fire combination to the Next
Big Thing.

Final
Round Compilation CD Review
October
20, 1999 3AM - Froglick: (homeless) Just what this compilation
needed a referee. Froglick is one of those rare musically
inclined bands that like to teeter on every line drawn as
far as the realms of music go. Action packed with amazing
basslines and drums that keep more than the beat. Guitar that
plays lead and rythym at the same time? is it possible? No,
but some would say that their guitarist is a magician. See
them live for a power packed show.

July
24, 1999 2AM - "Froglick was pretty impressive. Rarely
do you hear a band that has the agility of these guys. They're
not just a punk band and when I asked them they were adamant
about not giving me a definition. I was happy to hear that.
This band has more than just the key elements to a good band.
Some amazing solos and catchy riffs with smooth transitions
coming from Lou the guitarist. Backed by the amazingly original
basslines and One of the biggest drum sets I have ever seen
(which the drummer had the ability to exploit, a key factor)
and the vocals done well regardless of the throat rash the
singer had."

April,
1999 - "The bass lines were catchy and groovin' and blended
right in with the drums to make a great backing for the guitar.
Although the guitar wasn't completely devoid of ska, Lou didn't
overdo it. He plays an upbeat, un-cheesy guitar, and adds
a few ingenious solos here and there."
"Overall, I enjoyed the practice, as well as the three song
demo I got on my way out the door. Froglick is a great band
and I recommend them to anyone looking for an energy filled
show, minus the ultra-peppy ska-geeks that are almost inevitable
at ska shows in Utah Valley."

February
10, 1999 - "Froglick...jammed through a pounding set
that set the fans into motion. Froglick has been together
for the past two years and has had a variety of performances
that range from open club shows to benefits. They are taking
it one show at a time; and with the sound of their music,
they should go far"
"Froglick's performance was outstanding and entertaining,
and you could see that those in attendance all shared the
same sentiments. There was something in the air that seemed
to linger around after the band left the stageThat something?
INTENSITY!!!"
